In 2007, Charan made his film debut as the leading man in the film Chirutha, which was directed by Puri Jagannadh. His performance earned Filmfare Best Male Debut (South) and Nandi Special Jury Award for the role[8]. His second film Magadheera was a blockbuster hit creating box office record in the Telugu film industry which is directed by S. S. Rajamouli,[9] The film received 6 South Indian Filmfare awards including the Filmfare Best Actor Award and Nandi Special Jury Award for Charan[10]. After the stupendous success of Magadheera, Charan starred in Bommarillu Bhaskar's Orange. Though the movie failed to score success at the box-office, but his performance and music byHarris Jayaraj were greatly praised. His latest flick Rachcha released recently and it has taken a historic opening and has broken all opening-day and opening week records[11][12].
At present Charan is working on three movies. Two movies in Telugu, an untitled movie directed by V.V. Vinayak and produced by D.V.V Danayya and Yevadu directed by Vamsi Paidipally and produced by Dil Raju are on sets and are scheduled to release this year end. He also kick-started the shooting of his Bollywood debut film Zanjeer, a cult classic Hindi film of the same name starring Amitabh Bachchan.
